Starbreeze net sales of nearly $ 4 million

Are losses and EBITDA stabilizing following a “one-off”? decrease in the last quarter, Payday 3 still on track

Starbreeze released its financial results for the quarter ended September 30, once again primarily driven by its flagship Payday franchise.

For the quarter, the company’s net sales reached SEK 34.7 million ($ 3.9 million), an increase of 8.3% from SEK 32 million ($ 3.6 million) carried out in the third quarter of 2020.

The Payday series alone accounted for SEK 31.1 million ($ 3.5 million). The firm noted a 10% increase in Steam sales for Payday 2 during the third quarter, driven by the title’s 8th anniversary.

Earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortization stabilized after a sharp decline in the second quarter, from -51.8 million SEK (-5.9 million $) to 19.9 million SEK (2, $ 2 million).

The pre-tax loss also balanced at -7.9 million SEK ($ 902,000) compared to -80 million SEK (-9.1 million) in the last quarter.

The loss was attributed to the “one-off effects” of a licensing deal around Payday: Crime War.

The company signed a new deal with PopReach in April that saw the mobile publisher take over the development, live operations, and marketing expenses of Payday: Crime War. A beta version of the game is expected to open by the end of 2021.

Looking ahead, Starbreeze said development for Payday 3 “is proceeding as planned” and is still expected to launch in 2023, following a $ 50 million publishing deal with Koch Media.
